When Czech Republic meets U.S.A.

One year ago I arrived in Charlottesville to participate in the 2018 Global Leadership Forum (GLF 2018). I was selected to participate while serving as a Community Solutions program participant – volunteering in a New Orleans-based nonprofit for the better part of a year. Back home in the Czech Republic, I have been working for almost ten years on development and management of several national as well as European projects.

European Social Fund

In mid-August, the Czech Ministry of Finance came up with a new proposal to change the conditions for the payment of European subsidies from the European Social Fund (ESF). In practice, this proposal could have a major impact on clients of non-profit organizations drawing European money, for example on social services and education. How does the ESF project funding system now work? Who is spending money on projects ex-ante and who ex-post?
